For a prosperous society and to ensure that our society will grow over the long-term, our group operates social contribution programs to resolve social issues.

Donation Activities Conducted Through Regional Support Funds

With the aim of promoting social welfare objectives, Okasan Asset Management Co., Ltd., presently donates a portion of management fees collected from regional support funds (Mie Prefecture Support Fund, Mie Prefecture Support Bond Fund, Fukui Prefecture Support Fund, Kagawa Prefecture Support Fund, and Yamaguchi Prefecture Support Fund), which were established and managed by Okasan Asset Management.

The Mie Prefecture Support Bond Fund donates part of the trust fees collected from its beneficiary owners to projects and activities that help foster the next generation, among other causes, for a better future in Mie Prefecture. In February 2012, the Fund donated 40 picture books to each of 425 nursery schools in Mie Prefecture with a total of 17,000 picture books (total value of 20.78 million yen). The aggregate donation since the formation of the Fund in 2010 has reached 34.78 million yen.

Donation welfare vehicles

In October 2011, Okasan Asset Management Co., Ltd., donated one welfare vehicle each to two welfare facilities. The amount of the contribution in this year was JPY 3.16 million. The necessary budget is financed from the trust fee income from the Mie Prefecture Support Fund. The fund has made donations every year since its establishment on September 22, 2005, as a result, the cumulative donation since the launch of the Fund amounted to JPY 41.9 million.   Donation welfare vehicles

Sales of Vaccine Bonds

Okasan Securities Co., Ltd. sold vaccine bonds, a financial product designed to raise funds for administering vaccines to children in developing countries.

Vaccine bonds are bonds issued by the International Finance Facility for Immunisation (IFFIm), a multinational development assistance body that raises funds to promote public health and popularize vaccination based on long-term planning.

The funds that IFFIm raises through the issuance of its vaccine bonds are used to support international operations aimed at stepping up vaccination and other health services for children in developing nations through a public-private partnership known as the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI).

Approach to Environmental Issues

Use of Environmentally-Friendly Products

The Company prepares documents for shareholders, including letters and notices of shareholders' meetings, using environmentally-friendly products (recycled paper, soy ink, etc.). Environmentally-friendly products are also used for Adesso, a public relations magazine prepared by Okasan Securities, and certain pamphlets.

Creating and Managing SRI Funds

Okasan Asset Management Co., Ltd., the Group's asset management company, is making a contribution to efforts to fight global warming by investing in companies that address environmental issues.
In FY2007, the asset management company set up and began managing a fund called the Global Warming and Environmental Stocks Open ("Green Earth"), in FY2008, the company also formed a fund called the "Environment Future Balance Open"(Kankyo-sengen).

Helping release ibis into the wild

Marufuku Securities Co., Ltd. (Nagaoka, Niigata) is selling an Ibis Support Fund (formal name: Developed Countries High Ratings Sovereign Open, Monthly Settlement Type) to help conserve and breed the Japanese crested ibis, designated as a special natural monument in danger of extinction, and to help release them into the wild. Part of the earnings from the fund is donated to activities to protect the ibis.

Marufuku Securities supports activities to release the ibis, which are in danger of extinction, into the wild by donating part of the earnings from the fund to Niigata Prefecture Japanese Crested Ibis Conservation Donations (executive office: Niigata Prefecture Japanese Crested Ibis Conservation Donations Promotion Committee).

The total amount of participation fees collected for lectures on Chinese tea and chai delivered in the Okasan Securities Asia Information Hall is donated to a charity that arranges the digging of wells in Cambodia.

Support for the Japan Committee for Vaccines for the World's Children

Okasan Securities agrees with the mission of the Japan Committee for Vaccines for the World's Children (JCV), an authorized NPO, and supports the activities as a JCV sponsor.

JCV is an incorporated non-profit organization that supplies polio and other vaccines to developing countries where many children die of preventable infectious diseases. Through its activities, JCV also promotes volunteer efforts in terms of the global perspective.
